Job description

OPPD's T&D Operations is seeking 6 Line Technicians to join their Papillion Service Center. This position functions at the journey level of job performance and is expected to perform the full range of assigned duties in an independent and safe manner. This position performs a variety of skilled and technical activities in the operation, maintenance, construction, and repair of OPPD electrical transmission and distribution facilities and equipment. Position Specific Responsibilities/Accountabilities: Construct, maintain, and operate District transmission and distribution system equipment and facilities in a manner that ensures a high level of customer service, system reliability and employee safety. * Performs installation and connection of poles, lines, transformers, switches, streetlights, cable, fuses and etc. for overhead and/or underground service. * Operate heavy construction equipment including digger derrick trucks, reach trucks, hydraulic and pneumatic tools as well as various hand tools and other equipment. * Participates in on-the-job training of apprentice line technicians. * Works with the Crew Leader in customer contacts regarding temporary outages, property damage, etc. * May be required to serve as Acting Crew Leader. Qualifications Required: Completion of the District’s four-year line apprenticeship program or must have completed another certified line apprenticeship program with journey line certificate - OR - Five (5) years’ experience at an electric utility as a Line Technician with a fairly major metropolitan area or major electric utility contractor with exposure to high voltage; - OR - At least six (6) years’ at a Rural Electric Coop (REC) experience as a Journey Line Technician, and the ability to pass the District’s written and oral Line Technician exams (REC line technicians only). * Must have good communication and customer service skills. * Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver License. * Must live within a 35 mile radius of Center/Area Office Note: * A two-year Utility Line Construction Associates Degree may be used for one year of experience Org Marketing Statement EOE: Protected Veterans/Disability Apply on or before Aug. 23, 2022

Job description

OPPD's T&D Construction is looking for 15 Apprentice Line Technicians to join their team! This position will be responsible in assisting the construction, maintenance, and operation of District transmission and distribution system equipment and facilities in manner that ensures a high level of customer service, system reliability, and employee safety. Complete all requirements of the four-year Line Technician Apprenticeship Program, including all home-study and on-the-job training requirements. Specifically, the Apprentice Line Technician will be responsible for the following: * Required to assist in constructing, maintaining, and operating all manner of overhead and underground transmission and distribution system equipment and facilities. * Assist in performing installation and connection of poles, lines, transformers, switches, streetlights, cable, fuses, and etc. for overhead and]or underground service. * Operate heavy construction equipment including digger derrick trucks, reach trucks, and other equipment. Will also operate hydraulic and pneumatic tools and various hand tools. * Complete all requirements of the four-year Line Technician Apprenticeship, including all home-study and on-the-job training requirements. Candidates can either be entered into Step 1 or Step 5 of the Apprenticeship Program after a review of the candidate’s credentials and evaluation of the candidate’s at the Boot Camp. The recommendation of which step an employee will enter the program will be made by the hiring supervisor and the Line Technician Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (JATC). Qualifications * Requires an Associate's Degree from an accredited utility line program or must have completed an accredited line apprenticeship program. * Must possess the mental and physical potential to complete the four-year Apprenticeship Program in order to eventually progress to Line Technician. * Must have a Class A Commercial Driver’s License. * Required to pass a pre-­employment physical capability test. * Must be available for overtime as required. * Must have good communications and customer service skills. * Must live within a 35 mile radius of Center/Area Office. Lineman


Salary:  $112,170.24 - $113,022.00

A Lineman performs highly skilled, journey-level transmission, distribution, and electrical work in the installation, construction, maintenance, and repair of underground and overhead electric transmission, distribution and service lines, transformers, meters, metering equipment, electrical substations, and related equipment.  Other duties include climbing wood poles, ladders, and towers.  This class is responsible for performing related duties as required.

Work involves moderate physical exertion, heavy lifting, and exposure to inclement weather, as well as the hazardous conditions of working with high-voltage energized lines and equipment.  Employees are subject to stand-by, pre-arranged, and call-out duty.  This class is FLSA nonexempt.

Substance Abuse Testing.  This class is subject to Department of Transportation (DOT) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) drug and alcohol testing as outlined in 49 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 382.
