- Must be a Journeyman Lineman possessing IBEW Journeyman Lineman status in good standing.
- Journeyman electrical worker that has completed an accredited apprenticeship program required.
- Will be required to obtain & maintain a Class A CA Driver's license.
- Must be able to do heavy manual labor lifting a minimum of 60-75 pounds.
- Will be required to work on steel and wood structures, prior climbing experience is required.
- Underground system experience with 200 and 600 AMP systems is desirable.
- Must have demonstrated ability to absorb formal training and schooling.

Electric Journeyman Lineman (Journey Line Workers) are central to Consumers Energy's operations of delivering electricity to homes and businesses throughout our service territory.
Under general supervision, a Journey Line Worker performs any duties required in the operation, maintenance and construction of the electric distribution, sub-transmission, transmission, communication lines and associated equipment.
Key responsibilities include:
Locate and repair faults on all types of overhead and underground lines and equipment on regulators, transformers of all types, capacitors, boosters and similar devices.
Install or remove poles, towers, arms, pins, insulators, dead ends and associated equipment in and on energized circuits.
Measure voltage and current, phasing and paralleling circuits, power or lightning transformers and regulators.
Install and test electronic devices on equipment such as capacitors and other associated equipment on electric distribution systems.
Direct and train electric line apprentices in accordance with the electric line apprenticeship program.
A journeyman line worker must be familiar with:
Installing, inspecting, removing, maintaining, and repairing poles, towers, cross arms, braces, pins, insulators, secondary racks, brackets, guys, transformer supports, and other supporting structures, wires and other conductors.
Transformers, lightning arresters, capacitors, isolators, fuses and cutouts.
Disconnecting oil and air-break switches and repeater fuses.
Other associated equipment.
Knowledge about what causes radio or television interference.

Possess the skills, abilities, and craftwork of a Journeyman Lineman. Operates and maintains the electric & telecommunications system equipment associated with the transmission, distribution of the electrical power grid and telecommunications. Performs diversified construction work and maintains poles, power lines, auxiliary facilities, and equipment for the transmission and distribution of electricity and telecommunications. May perform all of the work of the ground and line craft. Regular and predictable attendance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION
50% - Expected to do work without requiring immediate supervision. Generally does numerous diverse operations which require frequent adaptation of complete lineman skill. Performs diversified construction work and maintains poles, and power lines, and auxiliary facilities and equipment for the transmission and distribution of electricity. May perform all of the work of the ground and line craft. Responsible for expensive tools, equipment, and materials. Requirements include working on energized or, when necessary, de‑energized voltages from 120 to 12,470 volts and any construction, maintenance, or repair of the City's transmission and distribution lines, including all related equipment. Requires complete working knowledge of transformers, transformer banking, transformer and conductor loading.
20% - Does switching and sectionalizing of lines. Energizes and de‑energizes distribution and transmission lines for construction, maintenance or repair. Uses back feeds, if available, in cases where construction, maintenance, repair or emergencies warrant. Assists in substation erection, operations, and specialized maintenance. Uses all tools, devices, vehicles, mechanical aids, material, and equipment common to line craft operations. Must possess pole climbing skills and the ability to utilize them in the completion of projects and safety related tasks.
20% - When necessary, assists others or performs a wide range of related work as required or directed. Assists in the instruction of trainees, Lineman Class B, Lineman Class C, and Lineman Helper. Must have the ability to test, recalibrate, inspect, and read electric meters. Also maintains and assists with proper sizing of electrical metering for services. Performs reconnects, disconnects, security light repair, spot meter bases for customers, check trouble calls, locates underground services, traffic light repair and assists customers with problems and questions. Prepares work related records. Performs tree trimming around electric lines and telecommunication lines.
10% - When assigned, shall assist the Division of Generation and Telecommunications with the operation, construction, repair, maintenance, and inspections of the work to be performed. Performs underground utility locates for OUPS notices.
